Michael Zurich founded Remy Battery
Co., Inc. as a small, local battery rebuilder in
1931. Rebuilding
lead acid batteries carried the company through
the Depression and even allowed Michael to reinvest
in the business. By the early 1940’s, the
company was manufacturing batteries. Remy Battery
was well-positioned to take advantage of the growth
in the automotive market after WWII.
Through 1940’s, 50’ and 60’s
the company continued to manufacture and sell batteries.
However, as the marketplace began to change, Remy
shifted its focus from the competitive manufacturing
arena and began specializing in battery distribution.
Over time, the company established an efficient
network of route trucks to distribute lead acid
batteries throughout southeastern Wisconsin. At
the close of the 1960’s, a second generation
was being trained to continue expanding Remy Battery’s
operations.
With a second generation of ownership taking
over in the 70’s, the company expanded
its route and retail operations as well as diversified
its product offerings. Over the next 20 years,
there was an increasing market for back-up power
and portable power products. Remy Battery again
realigned their product offerings to include
batteries
for uninterruptible power systems (UPS) and an
ever-increasing number of mobile products including
cell phones, two-way radios, laptop computers
and other portable devices.
As Remy Battery enters the new century, a third
generation is poised to continue the company’s
dedication to its customers by providing quality
batteries and battery-related products and exceptional
